Support Our Work
There are lots of ways you can get involved.
We have split the 106 mile trail up into manageable chunks, and each one has been assigned one or two Path Wardens. These people are responsible for inspecting their “patch” 2-3 times each year and reporting back on any issues which might need to be addressed by our Pathminder team….
All our maintenance work is done by ourPathminders - a great volunteer group of 55-60 people looking for goodexercise, good company and good banter and fun. In summer time, we concentrateon routine strimming, mowing, pruning, and lopping to keep the path open andwalkable, while dealing also with any signage or other problems that may ariseover the length of the trail. In the winter months we tackle other jobs such asbuilding/repairing bridges, steps etc. We have our “Light Brigade” who tackletasks such as pruning, raking, painting, litter picking... Whilst our “HeavyMob” are happy to take on the more physically demanding jobs. Some people enjoydoing both! We tend to take a flexible approach to our work days - opting forthe best weather forecast! This means we don’t have fixed days or times for ourwork parties and Pathminders are free to opt in or out of work as and when theyare available.
This event takes place in April each year andis a joint venture between Rotary and the Ayrshire Coastal Path. On one day up to twenty beaches onthe Ayrshire Coast are tackled, with the aim of removing as much of the winterstorm litter as possible from the entire coastline. Individual beach cleans arehosted and led by Ayr Rotary Club, the Ayrshire Coastal Path, the Rotary Clubsof Prestwick and Alloway, and a diverse range of other community groups, farmers and landowners who all give their time generously. The event issupported by South and North Ayrshire Councils. For information about the nextevent subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Facebook.
Report a problem - We would appreciate any feedback you might have about the Ayrshire Coastal Path, and any problems encountered that might need remedied quickly – as this allows us to react and remedy anything that might cause problems for our farming partners – or walkers themselves. To report a problem email info@ayrshirecoastalpath.org
Litterpicking - live close to a part of the Ayrshire Coastal Path? Walk along a certain section often? You can help keep the route tidy by collecting small amounts of litter and taking it home or placing it in the nearest bin. On some of our more remote beaches in the south, we have placed ‘Blue Planet Blue Bins’ for plastic - pop plastic items in there and our volunteers will empty it.
